Artwork Meaning
This series came about after a request from a friend for an artwork that had a Galah featured. It was painted to capture the Galah at different times of the day (Morning, Day and Night).
Each Galah has the iconic grey and pink colouring and the backgrounds aim to capture the light and colours you might see at any given time of day.
A few years after painting this series I started researching my family history and learnt that my grandmother (dad’s birth mother) was from Gulargambone, a small town in the central-west plains of New South Wales, on the banks of the Castlereagh River, in Coonamble Shire.
When we were exploring this tiny town there were Galah’s everywhere, signs leading in and out of town and painting on water towers and the sides of shops. Since then, the Galah holds special meaning and makes me think of family who were separated along the way.
