Artwork Meaning
This artwork was designed and painted in 2023 for a NADOC church service.
The Goanna represents my family totem and is painted in red with Yellow and Black in the background which represent the Aboriginal flag. The three suns in the middle of the goanna represent the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
The small colourful circles within the goanna represent individuals who make up a community and allow the viewer to identify themselves within the art work. In the background there is a circle pattern with four main colours yellow brown, green and blue. Yellow represents sand, which can be both peaceful (walking along the beach) or scary (quick sand).
Brown represents dirt or the earth and being grounded as well as times where we walk through mud which can be messy. Green represents grass or green pastures but can also represent steep hills which are hard to climb.
Blue represents water which depending on the setting can be cool, calming and refreshing or there can be crashing waves and currents which can be dangerous. Together the background tells the story of life’s highs and lows, good times and hard times, peace and turmoil but through it all God is present and shining his light, even in the darkest moments to guide the way.
John 14:6- Jesus said to him, ”I am the way, and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
